Born in 1958, lives and works in London. Opie studied at Goldsmith College of Art and soon exhibited at Lisson Gallery and the ICA in London, the Kunstverein in Cologne and the Fondation Cartier pour l’art contemporain in Paris. His works are represented in major collections and museums of the world, such as The Tate Modern and The National Portrait Gallery in London, MoMA in New York, Tokyo and MOMAT the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam. Due to computer animation, sound and LED screens showing Opie unexpected interpretation of the sculptures. As wide as the range of influences, from which Julian Opie draws - from classic portraits and sculptures to Japanese manga comics - is also a wide range of different media and technologies used in its creation. For his work is characterized by a reduction to the essentials. This principle is especially obvious in portraits. His highly stylized work involves the transmission of photographs (or short films) into figurative reproductions created using computer animation. His illustrations represent a new approach to images and forms that use of modern materials and media refer to the context of the current world. acquired in 2001 for his portrayal of Julian Opie covers album by British band Blur named Best of Blur award for best illustration awarded by the magazine Music Week.
